Spring Train Week One Down
By Elizabeth Kilgore 03/11/2016
Week one of spring training has been interesting so far. The flock has managed to win 4 games and lose 5 games, making things pretty even so far. This isn’t including the game going on right now today. Here are some highlights.
Molina finally debuts
We all thought Molina was going to debut on opening day but when he didn’t some of us wondered would he play at all during spring training. Molina is still recovering from the swinging tag that injured him last season from that Cubs games (yeah you remember THAT game) and that is why it wouldn’t have surprised anyone if he wasn’t able to debut at all. Then on March 9th we see him “what this!” he walks out on the field “but he can’t bat with that!” oh yes people he was still wearing a splint when he walked out, and then he debut behind the plate as catcher! A catcher! Now if you were thinking he wouldn’t try to pull off a swinging tag you know now you were wrong, because not only did he try he also succeeded. As far as him getting back behind the bat we will all be waiting and watching.
Injuries Injuries
Wouldn’t it be great if spring training could have gone by without injuries? Well, the players are human so let’s not think that will ever happen. On March 7th Peralta left us all in dismay has he had an unknown injury to his left hand, we later found out he tore a ligament in his left thumb (HIS THUMB!) just like Molina. We learned that it could leave him out of the game for 2 to 3 weeks. Then the final word came that Peralta would need surgery, which he finally received March 10th with a given recovery time of 10 to 12 weeks. Cards fans care for their players very deeply and have taken to social media to wish Peralta a speedy recovery. Which is what we all are wishing for whether we state it on twitter or not, we don’t like to see them hurt, but we like to see them recover (like Molina’s can’t hold me down swinging tag this week), soon we will see Peralta show us all that he is still made of too and that will be a great day indeed.
New Players
You know what I’m actually sorry I don’t know this one. I saw the young guys come in last season, they sign their contracts and went to watch the game. Honestly, that’s where I left it. I put this part in this blog because people keep asking me who the new players will be, but the way I see it just because they sign a contract doesn’t mean they will get to play. I like to wait it out see if they make the cut and who is actually going to be out on the field.
